Amazingly our small business is thriving, even during the normally quiet months of June and July! Perhaps it helps that if you google www.hermesscarf.co.uk, we now often come up right after the great fashion house of Hermes itself. I believe and hope we collectors and resellers offer our own little service to Hermes, by ensuring that every new carre they sell immediately becomes an investment item that can later be sold if required, as well as enjoyed.
You will see that we are increasingly sourcing some very unusual, extraordinarily beautiful, interesting, and valuable scarves, perfect for wearing, or for purchase at knock-down prices for the most discerning collector. I am so passionate about every scarf in my collection that I spend many hours, sometimes days, reseraching its background. I lean very heavily on the wonderful Ladi from Carre de Paris; and also Facebook's Hermes Scarf Guides, both of whom are miles more authoratative than I am; as well as using some of the background stories from Hermes itself. I have now collected together as much information as I can find on around two hundred carres. I am more than happy to provide you with info on any of these if you would like it - just ask! Im sorry that I dont have each profile automatically downloadable, apart from the ones currently on sale.

A year later, and not all that much has changed!
We have have an even better idea of what is of greatest appeal to our special customers, and are endlessly refining our collection of beautiful Hermes scarves. We don't like having too many in stock at any one time, or our website downloads too slowly, due to the size of the many large pictures that we upload so that you can see each scarf in exquisite detail. We tend to go for designs which could be paintings (some of them actually are!) featuring actual 'things' rather than the more abstract. Wild animals, nature, geography, horses involved in different disciplines and their associated tack, music, sailing, and wine are just some of our selected subject areas, all scarves coming in excellent condition, and in beautiful vibrant colourways. Not just lovely, but also providing a really thoughtful, useful, and pertinent beautifully packaged gift for that special person in your life. We hope that every scarf is very accurately described, so that you will be nothing other than delighted with your purchase. We tend to do our photography prior to cleaning, so that when you receive your scarf you should be agreeably surprised. We believe that most other online resellers indiscriminately market all the scarves they are offered, working on a commission basis, so the buyer has to wade through 100s of rather ordinary scarves until they stumble across something special. We buy in all our scarves, and are therefore very selective, almost always going for the less available designs. We will be most disheartened if you manage to find any of our designs advertised elsewhere in comparable condition for a lower price. Often our scarves are half the cost of equivalents advertised on other, mostly American, sites, and of course for UK buyers there are no associated customs nor shipping costs. We always research competitors' pricing before we advertise our scarves. We are able to offer supreme value because we have few overheads, operating from a private home in central Dartmoor. We simply add a relatively small mark-up to each scarf, which isn't based on its initial cost to us. This ensures that our rarer designs offer particularly good value for money, as our view is that every product we sell requires equal time and cost spent sourcing, cleaning, research, packing and posting, and we price each one accordingly. Call us sentimental, but we simply enjoy having scarves that we really love, are terribly proud of, and longing to wear ourselves, in our collection. Sometimes we simply sit in our store, and gaze at them in awe. What a fabulous business we have. We hope that you will enjoy our scarves as much as we do! It is so exciting that my little business is going from strength to strength! I hope, and would like to believe, that HermesScarf.co.uk is now the best specialist resource for the iconic 'Carre 90' in the world.
We recently sold a vintage 'Flies', pictured above, to a lovely lady who has just started fishing. Didnt she do well?! And in such style! You will see that we specialise in strong colours and images, with a few of the older traditional designs, and some more modern ones inbetween. But our emphasis tends to be on scarves that were issued around the turn of the century, with an especial fondness for those of Dallet. You will hopefully notice that our selection offers unusually good value when compared with other Designer Resellers' sites. This is because we like a good, fast turnaround, our overheads are low, we just love the business, and are happy not to make too much of a profit on each scarf. Amazingly, if you select 'Ending Soonest' on eBay, you'll find that on average fewer than 1 in 10 Hermes scarves advertised on there even receives a bid, indicating that most sellers are far too optimistic about how much their scarves are worth. Having said that, we saw a perfectly ordinary 'Les Ameriques' recently sell in an American auction for over £8,000! We'll try to get our hands on one of those!! As possibly the world's only specialist in new, barely worn, vintage, second hand, preloved and preworn Hermes Scarves, we believe that the Hermes Scarf, or 'Hermes Carre 90' is completely iconic, every example is a work of art, telling its own individual story. We are so passionate about each carre that we spend hours and days researching its background, as one might a work of art, and include the details with each gift-wrapped scarf - free shipping in the UK, or just £25 overseas. Uniquely, we list our online collection in order according to subject matter, so that you can quickly find the perfect scarf for yourself or loved one, be it equestrian, geographical, historical, nautical, mythological or ecological. The ultimate individual, personal, thoughtful, luxurious but practical gift, at a very good price compared with the designer online resellers, and considerably more loved! Every one of our scarves has been carefully sourced for quality, value, attractiveness, interest, and rarity value. We are always keen to buy, but few scarves meet our rigorous standards. We only sell scarves that we are personally in love with ourselves! It's funny how new businesses start up. I find they sort of naturally morph into something rather different from what you first expected them to be. HermesScarf.co.uk emerged from the first Lockdown: New, Pre-Worn and vintage used Hermes scarves. I found it impossible to indulge in day-time telly-watching, while all my lovely B&B guests were forced into cancelling their bookings by the busload. So I thought I might spend my time in a little buying and selling - of what, I had no idea! Beautiful chests? Gorgeous pieces of china? E-bikes? Well over the months I found I'd focussed on designer scarves and sunglasses (postable), and Ford Fiestas (deliverable) - the ideal first car for children in the throes of learning to drive and passing their tests, as mine are. Since then I've found myself homing in solely on Hermes scarves. I have become ever more fascinated by them. They're not just scarves, but intricate works of art, each one with a history behind it. As I learned more and more about how they originated, how they're made etc, it began to dawn on me that I am more aware than most of what many of the designs represent. One of Hermes' most popular scarves, 'Mors a Jouets' I discovered, literally means 'bit with toys' - it's a specialised 'mouthing' bit for helping young horses relax when you're breaking them in. How many other Hermes scarf affeciandos would know that? The yachts featured on my nautical scarves, I noticed, are gaff rigged. The last America's Cup (the oldest and most glamorous sporting event in the world, when the biggest and fastest racing yachts tried endlessly amd fruitlessly to beat America) which featured those, took place in 1920 - it's been Bermuda rigs since then. The more I find out, the less I know, and the bigger and more exciting the whole area all becomes! I have made some wonderful fellow Hermes Scarf-fan friends through the business already. I am so excited about what the future holds! |
